For four decades Herd and team have worked with diverse communities globally in support of the land and the people historically connected to it.

Beyond earthworks, the artist continues to create paintings, prints, and sculpture along with the occasional film production and musical engagement in the cultural Mecca of Lawrence, KS.

Working with the Consulate Generals in Texas and Kansas, the artist is setting his sights on permanent earthworks in Mexico with Claudia Sheinbaum in celebration of “The Decade of Indigenous People”.

NEW YORK CITY - The creation of the one acre Earthwork, Countryside, constructed on the Hudson River, Manhattan’s westside in 1993 became the subject of a feature length film capturing the help of 3 men living in shelters, Manhattan’s Westside, the 9 month odyssey was captured in the feature length movie Earthwork created in 2011, staring the actor John Hawkes playing the artist role.

in celebration of the Minneapolis Institute of Art’s 100th anniversary, the museum commissioned stan herd to recreate Van Gogh’s ‘Olive Trees’ (in their collection)…on 2 acres at the nearby international airport…which got the attention of -

the JiCheng family in Yunnan China…A 4 acre permanent earthwork which took 2 years to build- Young Woman of China.
